The Chilean Society of Audiovisual Directors, Screenwriters, and Playwrights (ATN) signed a historic contract with the streaming platform Netflix that will result in fair compensation for audiovisual directors and screenwriters for the exhibition of their works.
This agreement with the world's leading streaming platform, with millions of subscribers in over 190 countries, marks a new chapter in the protection of audiovisual creators' rights in Chile, reaffirming ATN's commitment to defending and promoting these rights.
“After arduous negotiations and prioritizing dialogue as the main tool to reach agreements that benefit all our members, we have signed an important agreement with Netflix that ensures audiovisual directors and screenwriters will receive fair and equitable remuneration for the exhibition of their works on this platform,” stated César Cuadra, ATN's General Director.
This achievement falls under the Ricardo Larraín Law, which establishes, for the first time in Chile's history, the inalienable and non-transferable right of authors to receive remuneration for the transmission or broadcasting of their audiovisual works.
This law represents decades of a titanic struggle by ATN, whose history dates back to 2014 when, with the support of other prestigious international collective management entities, it launched a campaign to approve legislation guaranteeing fair compensation for audiovisual creators in Chile. After intense efforts, the Ricardo Larraín Law (N°20.959) was unanimously approved by the Chilean Senate in August 2016.
The agreement with Netflix is another step that ATN has taken to implement this fundamental law to ensure that audiovisual creators, both national and international, receive fair compensation for the use of their works in Chile. Thus, ATN continues to pave the way for authors' rights at a regional level.

Agreement with Turkish Entities
Additionally, ATN recently signed a new reciprocal representation agreement with the group of Turkish entities (EGAAT), strengthening its worldwide representation and expanding its network to over 50 active contracts across the five continents.
Screenwriter Daniella Castagno, President of ATN, Vice President of the International Confederation of Audiovisual Authors (AVACI), and a member of the Executive Council of the Federation of Latin American Audiovisual Authors Societies (FESAAL), stated, “The signing of the contract with Netflix and the Turkish entities—Turkey currently being the third largest exporter of scripted series in the world—constitute two important achievements for ATN. They reflect our ongoing commitment to audiovisual creators and allow us to continue consolidating our management.”
